Q&A Session: Is Banning Alcohol Solution to Alcohol Abuse?

I have asked some of my friends if banning alcohol is the solution to alcohol abuse.

All of them are from Gujarat. Since Gujarat has it's own rule of Alcohol Prohibition, Gujarat had banned alcohol consumption since 1960 as a homage to Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi.

Hence, when i asked them, "Is Banning Alcohol Solution to Alcohol Abuse?"

The answers from them were quite interesting. So I am presenting them here:

"We all Gujarati-people should be proud of our Gujarat. We have banned alcohol consumption in our state. Because of it, drinkers of alcohol in Gujarat will have fear that if they go outside and do something stupid they might be in trouble."

"Due to alcohol ban in Gujarat, people(especially women) of our state can roam around in cities in midnight too, without any fear. May be this law is not stopping the people from drinking the alcohol but it's stopping them to do such crimes from alcohol."

"There is alcohol ban in Gujarat but still who want to drink, they are drinking and who don't want to, they won't even if it is available in every shops like Milk. So banning alcohol doesn't make much sense."

"I am happy that I live in a state which is alcohol free. It's one of the part of the steps that has made Gujarat developed state. I agree with the decision of government because such things once taken, forces the person to drink it for next time too and thus results into a 'BAD HABIT.'

There was some paradox in the discussion too. Let's see...

"Alcohol should be made legal in Gujarat. I don't think it's a good philosophy to ban alcohol in Gujarat. Alcohol is already being sold in many cities of Gujarat illegally. Due to this, Government is also not earning any revenue/tax from the alcohol sell."
